Our laboratory uses the latest technology to measure the carbon content of soil samples through combustion analysis. Detailed pre-treatment of the samples will also provide TOC (total organic carbon/content).
Our testing methodology involves combustion analysis, a reliable and essential tool for proper soil carbon analysis under the Australian Federal Government Carbon Credits Act 2011 (subsection 106(1) Carbon Farming Initiative upgraded in 2018).
TOTAL ORGANIC CARBON (TOC) DETERMINATION
- Total Organic Carbon (TOC) determination in soil, rock, and shale is a common analytical tool used for a variety of purposes, including:
- Assessment of soil quality in agriculture.
- Determining locations of natural hydrocarbon fossil fuel deposits.
- Quality control of raw building materials.
- TOC can be determined utilising one of the following two methods:
- Acid digestion
- Temperature-dependent differentiation.
This service can provide high-quality data for any organisation involved in carbon sequestration projects or trading carbon credits.
Most research institutions in Australia are using this methodology for carbon analysis (including the CSIRO).
We plan on upgrading our services in mid-2-25 to SSA staff going into the field, collecting samples for our clients, and returning the samples to the lab for testing.
